Projects for the Bajau Laut Kids
around Semporna:
Important
donation from
Knorr-Bremse Global Care,
Germany
secures
construction of two units
learning centres and a learning
boat for bajau laut
kids around Semporna. Centres
will be run in
cooperation with
WWF and
Semporna Island Development
Projects as well as local
communities.
We took
part in Malaysian Bar Council
and UNICEF's "Education
for every Child" launch in Kuala
Lumpur 20.November
with YAB Tun Dr Siti Hasmah,
wife of former Malaysian Prime
Minister Tun Mahathir and UNICEF Malaysia
Representative Mr. Youssouf Oomar.
At the
RSPO's
Roundtable7 we highlighted
the cause of the plantation
children together with UNICEF.
We look
forward to working together with
UNICEF Malaysia
for the most underprivileged
children in Malaysia.

Our
projects were recently featured on
World Business
Channel,
CNBC as a prime example of Corporate Social
Responsibility in Malaysia.
A very encouraging
letter from UNHCR Deputy Representative
Henrik Nordentoft after a two
day visit to our projects. We intend
to cooperate with UNHCR about
projects for children of refugees.
Our projects for underprivileged
children received a special mention in
Malaysia's
Periodic Report to the UN as an improvement of children's rjght to
education.
New Projects:
Learning Centre on
BumBum Island,
sponsored by
EAC Foundation
is completed
with help from
Swedish charity Ankerstiftelsen
and Lill Babs. The children from the bajau
laut community in the village have their
first chance to go to school.
PPB
Oil Palms/Wilmar has completed 7 Learning
Centres of a high standard in the Sapi and
Sugut area, North of Telupid. The centres
are run by some of our experienced teachers
as well as new trainee teachers from the
area.
Official Opening on 26/5 2009.
In cooperation
with IOI 2 new centres have been
started in Lee Pang and in Ladang
Bimbingan.
Cooperation
with Yayasan Nur Salam about
education for the children in Rumah
Nur Salam in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur.
